I think they will try and steal more. Habits, changing price over 30 days, delay paperwork to the consumer, limit change price and finally over charge at the end of the 30 days, allow paper work to reach the policy holder at the end of 30 days. I've had Gerber Life Insurance for the past 50 years. Their cost are low and customer service is outstanding.
I would never choose another life insurance. They have been good to me and my family and would say give them a look if you need insurance. I obtained 2 policies for each of my kids when they were babies. I have consistently paid these policies for 20 years. They are now repeatedly refusing to provide any accounting on the payments, refusing a payment audit to account for all of the payments submitted, and will not speak or correspond with me and will only speak to my kids.
One is disabled so that's out of the question. I have a legal right to have an accounting and verification of the application of payments to these premiums and loans since there is clear evidence they are not applying my payments to the loans, and INSTEAD paying advance premiums so that they can prolong the interest and existence of these small loans.
They are intentionally not applying payments to the loans so that Interest can continue to accrue and the loans never get paid off. They need to comply with my demand for an accounting. You cannot take someone's money, misapply the funds, refuse to communicate about the funds provided, and continue to force someone to accrue interest on something that should already be paid off! This is criminal. This is what Navient is being sued for in a class action. I signed my two children up for Grow-Up plans when they were tiny.
My oldest is now an adult. I've paid on these plans for all these years, and what I've found is this company is either utterly incompetent or they're running a scam. I've signed up for auto-pay probably a dozen times, and I've signed up for paperless billing as often. A 'while I'm in here' sort of thing. Auto-pay works for a while, then I'll get a letter telling me they've auto-opened a loan to cover my premiums because of missed payments. So I go through the process again, entering the same payment information.
Then anywhere from a few months to a couple of years, and auto-pay stops again. It happened this week. I went into the system today, clicked to pay my past due balance, and the payment information on file is still good. I'm not entering anything new, just again setting up auto-pay. There's no set time for when it will run, and it doesn't fail on any schedule. I think the last time this happened was about 6 months ago. And just over a year the time before that. While in the system today, as I always do, I tried again to sign up for paperless billing.
Usually it tells me I've successfully completed the process, but the letters just keep coming in the mail. Restrictive timing: there are specific ages when the child may request increased coverage, and that request must happen between 30 days before and 30 days after the anniversary of this policy being purchased So you and your child now have to remember not just birthdays and anniversaries of loved ones, but anniversaries of your insurance purchases for this to work And one more detail: the latest the child could possibly increase coverage is the policy anniversary when they're age So if you hoped your child might have the option to increase their insurance in their own golden years with this child life insurance, that's not possible with Gerber.
How might she think about whether she wants to keep paying premiums on the Gerber Life Policy? But almost no one needs permanent life insurance though for some people, it is a good choice, just not a Gerber policy, most likely.
What if my daughter, at age 21, wanted to double coverage, using the guaranteed purchase option? To give you an idea of what that might cost, here is the current rate for a 21 year old female non-smoker in New York:. Incredibly low. Even if these rates from Gerber were somehow competitive vs. Most working adults need at least 10x their annual income in insurance coverage, oftentimes more. By the time your child is a working adult, the max coverage amount will be worth even less because of inflation.
The odds that this expensive policy will offer adequate coverage are therefore quite low. I believe the biggest risk is that parents and grandparents get lured into a Gerber Grow-Up Plan not fully understanding how the policy is priced and how it will work in the future.
One conversation I had with a rep was telling. She asked me why I wanted to know the cash values at the ages when my daughter would have the option to buy more insurance. The standard disclosure omits cash values from policy year age No medical exam is required, and acceptance is guaranteed.
Unlike life insurance, accident insurance does not pay out if the insured dies from illness or natural causes. You can also get a quote, pay your bill, view your policy and update beneficiary information. Before you start comparing companies, choose the type of life insurance you want, such as term or whole life.
Decide which life insurance riders , if any, you want the policy to include. Calculate how much life insurance you need and how long you want the coverage to last. When comparing rates, be sure the quotes are for the same amount of coverage over the same period of time. Price may not be the biggest driver behind your decision to buy. Look at the number of consumer complaints each company receives, as high numbers can be a red flag about the quality of service.
