The parallel port on and before is nice to have for things like PSIO in case you decide you don't want to rely on lasers. Posted: Thu Jan 04, pm. These threads might be of some help: viewtopic. PC Engine Fan X! My vote is the x. Good laser and can be Toslink modded. I have a Japanese launch model.
I replaced the laser once during the PS3 era. It works and looks like new. Lets remember that during the hey day of the PS1 a lot of people used chipped machines, gold discs, were swapping disc mid flight etc.
That won't happen anymore and the amount of usage it will get will be x less. Am I better off looking for one with both the parallel port and RCA outs? That way I can just easily hookup a lightgun to it and not have to worry about getting the dongle? Posted: Fri Jan 05, am. Posted: Fri Jan 05, pm. I think the x series is the best one. It has the upgraded cd drive that doesnt break and parallel. But if you want to actually play those games then PS1 should be the way to go.
Good luck in your search! If you want a light gun just get the guncon breakout cable. No need for a special scart cable. Posted: Sat Jan 06, am. Posted: Sat Jan 06, pm. I've never noticed a signal degradation from using the guncon breakout, but sure. The breakout cable does nothing to the PQ. It just syncs the gun up with the picture and for that it just needs composite.
Its primary issue is that it overheats like crazy. If you want to actually play this thing, don't bother. Personally, I've got a boxed launch model that I keep just as a collectible.
The thing feels like it can just about fry an egg after an hour of play. As for all the other models, I've had more pass through my hands than I can even remember still have two; a that I brought brand new myself in '99 and an another that's a or , can't remember which.
They're all about the same as far as I can tell. It's just a matter of age and use. If you want one in mint shape that works well, your best bet is a , if only because they're the youngest and are likely to have been used less than an older model.
But they're also getting up there in age, and you could just as well come across an older model that was lightly used that works better than a heavily used In my case, my has always been my primary unit, and while I've always treated it like gold and it still looks mint, even it has started to become a little problematic in the last few years, after over a decade of working perfect. Some games load just fine, others can barely get through FMVs or won't load at all.
From what I last heard, replacement laser units can be bought for around bucks. I don't know if they have the longevity of the original, official laser units, but these days, they may be your best bet in getting a reliable PS1.
Sad to say, but the PS1 wasn't a particularly well built system in general. I have no luck with the SCPH Since the didn't work, I tried both lasers in another PS1 that are not and they work fine.
This is the color what will indicate it when i did it blindly? What does the Red mean? What does the yellow mean? What does the green mean? I played a lot and had the fortune to own every model. Also, if you want to purchase a laser replacement, why don't you buy an SCPH, its very cheap and has the best video output of all the models, they are very reliable even if they are a bit ugly.
